The America Dream

USA??? who in the world does not know this three letter giant? what is so fascinating about the united states that people from all over the world go to this place? Despite stringent entry conditions and visa formalities, people going to the US has infact increased and still continuing to increase. A conversation between two mami's ( uanties)
Ruku: Lakshmi, un pulla nannarkana? ( How is your son doing?)

Lakshmi: sowkiyama irukan. avnaka yenna rukku, America la illa irukan. avanakka romba pudichu poidtha di. ( He is doing good, lucky boy, he is in the US! He enjoys his stay in the US)

Ruku: Inniki pakathatha janaki mami ponnu US pora. ava company la 6 months deputation la anparan la..... (Today, our neighbour Janaki mami's daughter is leaving for US on her company's deputation which is for 6 months)

Lakshmi: ippo lam US porada lam namba thanjavur pora mari aadithu!(Now a days, going to the US has become just like going to our thanjavur(a place in Tamil Nadu)

So that was a small conversation between two house wives in madras. Every one has a craze to visit the US whether it is a forty five year old house wife or a college graduate or even a seventy year old man. what is that one thing that gives it that distinct outstanding identity? why not to India or any other country for that matter? US is the world leader in everything right from the very size of the country to the most successful companies that have flourished in the land of US.

These days the number of fresh engineering graduates going to the US year on year is overwhelming. This has almost become a trend! Students are smart enough these days, thanks to the online social networking webistes and the world of internet. Although the hiring patterns on college campuses is more or less the same when compared to three-four years back, students are not very apprehensive about them. Reason? Students these days are well advanced and possess concrete plans on what they want to do in their life. Fortunately or unfortunately there is an impression among the fresh college graduates that the kind of assignments given to these amateurs in the vast field of IT is somehow not in line with their professional interests. There is a blog coming up on the typical life at an IT company. So obvious option is higher studies and undoubtedly the US. Question is why only US? stay tuned! coming up next a series of posts on higher studies in the united states.

coming to the corporate atmosphere, IT especially all the big Indian IT giants today have their global presence felt worldwide. It has almost become a tradition in in the India IT companies that an employee after completing two years of service in the company gets the so called on-site assignment which is by default the US and now a days which is getting extended to other European countries as well. But why US again? The global headquarters of those multibillion giants are invariably based in the united states. So there is nothing to wonder about some one going to the US on a company deputation as well.

But has any one given a thought about this never ending people going to the US? There seems to be no limit but to increase year after year. Despite strict regulations during the visa interview process, there is little that the department of homeland security can do about this with a qualified candidate but to grant his visa. But once you get there, you are rightly in the land of opportunities and rightly called the land of Immigrants.

There are tremendous opportunities in every field of study. The kind of exposure that students get during their stay on campus is exceptionally good of its kind. striving through extreme climates, staying away from homes, incurring considerable expenditure towards higher education and most importantly adapting to a totally different environment and getting on with the social and cultural differences is not a joke after all. Fortunately, Indian students do not face much of a problem in their communication. But yes, graduate study in the united stated is very demanding and it can not be taken for granted. A student has to put in graduate level of hours of efforts in order to receive graduate credits in the chosen field of study. Indian students do exceptionally well. US masters degrees are respected by employers worldwide. There is a lucrative compensation offered to fresh graduates passing out of the US varsities.

Stay tuned for the next article on graduate admissions to US Universities!

Bombay-a city that never sleeps

Bombay- A city that never sleeps, proudly called so!! Life in the city of bombay starts around 4 00 in the morning for many of them. one can find people hurrying in these wonderful morning hours to rush to their daily work. This is clearly indicated by the crowded trains in the very early hours of the mornings. one can find last trains in the city around 1 30 also and they resume their opeartions for the next day at 4.

people and culture
This is a unique city in india where one can find from the richest to the poorest living happily in their own way. The concept of rich and poor is indifferent here. People are broadminded and are very helpful unlike people in many parts of the country. To support this statement , we can take the Bombay rains during july 2005. especially july 26th,2005 was an unfortunate day for entire mumbai. The rains kept continously pouring as heavily as possible. This thing happens every year but this one was a bit different. Entire city flooded even at that time when the buses were struck in deep waters people helped each other whole heartedly to save their fellow mumbaikars. These days when you walk on the roads and if you see some one meeting up with an accident we dont even look back?? But even during that vehement situation people were so caring concerned and helpful. that shows the unity and oneness of the people in bombay. Infact mumbai is a highly blessed city because of the people living there. One can find people from every part of the country living there. Infact the city manifests a diverse culture with people from different background leading their lives happily on this beautiful city. Most importantly i cant forget to mention about mumbai's vada pav, the daily bread for most of them. folks just have that and go on with their work for hours together. one can find this besides the roads(pls dont think just just because it is on the roadsides it would be bad or so) this not the case with this place. you can find even people dropping down from cars and having them and then proceed their way!!

Commutation
when it comes to commutation in the city first thing i would like to mention is Mumbai Trains:- also known as the life line of bombay. one can find both the rich and the poor travelling by the same mumbai locals. one need not for a long time to fetch the next local. The frequency of local trains in mumbai is almost 3 minutes. These locals in mumbai are one of the best in the world for their frequency and speed. Not only trains the mumbais Buses are also plenty in number. even the bus conductors are polite enough to the people on board. exact change is not at al a problem for travelling in BEST. but whereas in some cities people are actually made out to get out of the bus just for the simple reason because they dont have change?? buses in bombay are rightly called as BEST. Long live BEST and 'mumbai ka rail'.

Entertainment,shopping and hangout places
As we all know mumbai is primo in all these because of the bollywood industry. There are innumerable shops and malls that one can choose from based on his/her own capabilities. the malls in the city are one of the best. They are beautifully constructed and any one can drop in their atleast to do window shopping. Rmall, shop rite, city one in vashi are few to be named. oppurtunities are unlimited in this city. It is all about how one can take up his career to shine high. No wonder this city is the financial capital of India.

Festivals and social events and cultural celebrations
yes , this itself is a topic where one can squeak for hours together. unlike many cities where festivals are restricted with in the home here the joy and happiness is shared among people in a very sumptous way. sweets and pedas are forket out on the road sides and what not everything!! A few festivals which are celebrated in a splendid manner ganapthi('ganapathi bappa murya') , dashara and diwali. A few must visit temple are mumbais sidhivinayak and mahalakshmi.
unfortunately now a days this city is targeted for all kinds of terrorism and anti social activities. long live mumbai jey maharashtra and jeya jeya mumbai.

IIT JEE to lENGINEERING

IIT-JEE to Engineering in India? what is this? preparation in Kota or any other dedicated preparation for that matter to life in deemed universities? The sad part of the story is infact the life of some students who unfortunately are not able to make it into IIT-JEE. IIT-JEE one of the most toughest and difficult exams to crack goes with out saying. ofcourse all of them can not get through the test. These students after preparing so hard for 2 years working out the most diffuclt problems unfortunaltely end up getting admissions in nationalised deemed universities which are popular enough not just in INDIA but through out the world just by the name of Infrastructure and so on. Actually the situation persiting in such universities is entirely different than these young intelligent minds would have thought. Truly speaking the standard of examinations in these universities is not even half of IIT-JEE preparation? Is it not an irony? Engineering is supposed to be the most difficult field of education and supposed to be the most disciplined one. But now a days the so called word ENGINEERING has become a matter of joke. A student who can afford to pay tens of lakhs can also get admission in such universities and an all india Merit Ranker in AIEEE also in the same university. so one can imagine how the lecture hours would be and so does the exams?? It is high time we all take some right steps towards a better INDIA.
